Main sewer line clearing, from your cleanout to the street

The line from the house to the street. Cleared through the cleanout, or without one, for $489 up to 100 feet.

The one pipe every drain in the house ends up in

The main sewer line carries everything from the house to the street connection. Sinks, tubs, laundry and toilets all feed it, so when it clogs the symptoms rarely stay in one room: a sewer backup, several slow drains at once, a toilet whose water level has changed.

A cleanout is a capped opening in that line, and it gives a technician direct access to the pipe. Drains By James has been clearing main lines since 2007 out of its shop at 190 Main Street in Wilmington, and the cleanout is where most of those jobs begin.

No cleanout is not a dead end

Drains By James also works without a cleanout. Tell the office what you have when you call 781-933-4304, and the technician arrives knowing what to plan for.

The company describes its mainline work as cutting-edge diagnostics paired with a guarantee that they will fix any problem in your mainline. The order matters: the camera shows what is in the pipe first, and the fix is chosen from what it shows.

One Google reviewer, Joanne Timmons, wrote about a "same day response to our sewer main blockage" from technicians who "explained everything" and "did awesome cleanup afterwards."

After the line runs clear

A video inspection after the clear shows the pipe as it is now. It is priced separately at $489 (2 hour minimum, $300 per hour after), and it is a point-in-time look: it does not guarantee that future clogs or issues won't occur.

A main sewer line up to 100 feet is a published $489. Weekday evenings add $110 or $160, weekend mornings add $125, and weekend afternoons, holidays and emergency calls are priced by phone.

If the camera shows a pipe that is cracked, root-broken or rust-thinned, trenchless pipe lining repairs it without a trench through the yard, and new customers get $500 off any pipe lining repair.
